DMXcat is a versatile program developed by City Theatrical Inc. that allows users to control, analyze, and test DMX lighting fixtures with ease. The DMXcat system consists of a small hardware dongle, which can be purchased separately, and a suite of free mobile applications. By combining these two components, users can enjoy wireless DMX and RDM control, as well as other useful lighting functions, right from their smartphone. The hardware interface is compact, battery-powered, and easily portable, fitting into a pocket, tool pouch, or belt. With Bluetooth LE technology, the dongle communicates with the smartphone applications within a range of up to 50 feet.
The DMXcat system offers five different software applications. The DMX Controller allows users to control a single universeDMX channel with two user interfaces - sliders or keypad. The Fixture Controller is designed for controlling multi-attribute fixtures and includes a built-in database. The RDM Controller enables bi-directional communication and control of RDM-enabled devices. The DMX Tester allows users to analyze and adjust settings for transmitting or receiving DMX signals. Lastly, the DIP switch calculator simplifies the configuration of DIP switches used for setting DMX addresses.
